This course is suitable for beginners and offers an understanding of how to weave a basket with a slath base and woven border. You will be provided with information to develop an understanding of how to prepare and select willow for basketmaking.

Working with a variety of willows from Orust, we will learn how to weave a round basket, using a variety of traditional basketry techniques.

Alice is a British designer and maker, who weaves large scale installations and sculptures in the wild. She learned basket weaving from master Annemarie O’Sullivan. Alice is now based in Sweden, where she teaches and explores basket weaving with locally sourced materials.

What participants need to bring:

• A small stool or solid wooden box, roughly 25cm tall x 25cm long x 20cm wide. This is for weaving on.

* Otherwise, all tools and material will be provided.

Material cost: Ca 200 SEK per basket (to be paid on site)

For those of you who want to bring a lunch box or similar, there is both a refrigerator and a microwave available. There are also many places nearby where you can buy food as well. Coffee and tea are offered during the whole weekend.

The course takes place on Saturday and Sunday 10:00-17:00 in Kalthoff Axes workshop at Bastugatan 43 in Stockholm.
